PARISH MISSIONS FOR ADVENT AND LENT

"2014 Connecticut Catholic Men's Conference"In a Parish Mission, there will be one talk given each night for three evenings. There are optional prayer services, as well.

GOAL:  To inspire your parishioners.  To deepen and rejuvenate their spiritual lives.  To create a desire for knowing God and connecting with Him on a deeper level.  To create an enthusiasm for  live out the faith more passionately in everyday life – both in and out of the church community.

What Takes Place:  I will give one talk each night, starting ideally around 7PM.  The three topics I give are below.  Each talk is about 45 minutes to 1 hour long.

FIRST EVENING TALK: “WHY DID JESUS HAVE TO DIE?”

There are many misconceptions about God.  Some Catholics perceive God as angry and as someone who isn’t pleased with you unless you are “good.”  Consequently, their prayer life suffers, they stay away from Reconciliation, and their relationship with God wavers.  After all, who would want a relationship with someone who is always angry?  In order to cultivate a deep, passionate spiritual life and an abiding relationship with God, we need to overcome our misconceptions of Him.  It is also necessary to know how much He loves us – individually, passionately, unconditionally.  We will explore who God is in the person of Jesus Christ, explore His love for us, and be challenged to respond more wholeheartedly to that love.

SECOND EVENING TALK: “LIFE-CHANGING PRAYER & SPIRITUALITY

The focus of this talk is on how to pray, how to connect with God, and how to make prayer work.   This is a very practical, how-to talk that discusses the different types of prayer and the struggles we all face.  The talk begins discussing necessary principles of the spiritual life, continues with tips on vocal prayer, and proceeds to deeper prayer that will revolutionize the whole way we pray and connect with God.  It also deals with how to overcome distractions.

THIRD EVENING TALK: “LIVING HOLY IN AN UNHOLY WORLD” (LIVING CATHOLIC WITHOUT COMPROMISE)

Peter Kreeft once said the problem with our country is not Hollywood, the president, or the media.  The problem is sin… and a crisis of saints!  This is a powerful, hard-hitting talk that discusses what it means to be a follower of Jesus and challenges parishioners to live out their Catholic faith more fully at home, at work, and in everyday life.  It discusses some common obstacles to holiness and how to overcome them. Finally, it calls Catholics to become saints because saints change the world!  St. Therese, for example, has been dead for over 100 years, and she is still changing lives worldwide because that is the power of saintly living!

Other Popular Talks:

  1. “The Sacrament of Confession:  A Life Transforming Experience” (With optional penance service to follow)
  2. “The Best Gift Ever!”  The true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and how it can transform our lives.  (With optional Adoration service to follow)
  3. Other talks upon request

OPTIONS:  Please note that you always have the option to substitute one talk for another.  In addition, I also speak to teens and Confirmation programs.  So there is an option to hold an additional night for teens, or have them join us during one of the three evenings.

Please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail if you have any questions.  From experience, these Parish Missions inspire, set parishioners on fire, and change lives.
